Actor Zhang Yaodong, 48, shared on Instagram on Tuesday (Mar 31) that his father has died at the age of 81. In a public tribute, the Malaysia-born, Singapore-based actor posted a childhood photo and paid tribute to his father’s quiet sacrifices. The place of death was not disclosed.

In the post, Zhang said: “This photo captures a warm moment between my father and me.” He accompanied the image with reflections on his father’s character, writing that he was “a man of few words” who “always shared the joys and kept the hardships to himself.”
Zhang thanked his father for raising him and his two siblings, for putting them through university and for his support. The actor closed the post with a direct address to his father: “Dad, you worked far too hard in this life. Please rest well now. You no longer have to endure any pain. Go to a place of happiness. We will meet again.” He ended the tribute simply: “I love you, Dad.”

Zhang described his father as loyal and hardworking, saying he lived a simple, frugal life and quietly sacrificed for the family. He recalled watching his father work — frying char kway teow, preparing roasted meats and planting Chinese herbs — and remembered a time when his father’s leg was badly burned but he continued to work despite the pain.
