Digital creator Kübra Karaaslan, 21, has died after jumping from the Osman Gazi Bridge on 23 March, Turkish authorities and local reports say. The incident was recorded by onlookers and the footage subsequently circulated on social media, prompting condolences and criticism over the sharing of the images.

According to reports, Karaaslan was seen climbing over the bridge’s safety railing in broad daylight on 23 March. Several drivers and passers-by stopped and attempted to persuade her to step back from the edge. Eyewitness video of the event circulated online.

Emergency medical teams arrived at the scene and transported Karaaslan to a nearby state hospital. She was declared dead on arrival, authorities reported.

Who was Kübra Karaaslan?

Kübra Karaaslan was a 21-year-old TikTok creator who had built a sizeable following by sharing upbeat lifestyle content and everyday moments. She was known among supporters of the Turkish football club Fenerbahçe for frequently featuring the team’s colours in her videos.

She was the daughter of Osman Şevket Karaaslan, an imam at the Hz. Yusuf Mosque in Ümraniye. Following a funeral service in Ümraniye, Karaaslan was laid to rest at the Kayabaşı Cemetery in Istanbul.

Online response and circulating footage

The distressing video of Karaaslan’s final moments was widely shared and has drawn sharp criticism from some users for the ethics of filming and distributing such footage. Others used platforms to offer condolences to her family and followers.
