Aysegul Eraslan, 27, a Turkish fashion designer and social media personality, was found dead in her Istanbul apartment in the Kagithane district on Friday, relatives and authorities said. She had posted a series of cryptic messages on Instagram hours before she was discovered.
Circumstances of her death
Relatives raised the alarm after Eraslan failed to answer her door. Police forced entry to her apartment and found her unresponsive; she was later declared dead at the scene. Her body was sent to the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute and an autopsy will be conducted to establish the cause of death. Authorities have launched an investigation and said they had not yet formally established the circumstances surrounding her death.
Close friend Kardelen Toprak confirmed Eraslan’s death on social media and said the case was being treated as a suspicious death. In the hours before she was found, Eraslan posted several messages to her Instagram account, including images described in reports as a bloodied note and a request for followers to care for her dogs. Among the posts she wrote: “There are things I could not share with you, things you didn’t know, things I never told you.” She also wrote, “The only thing I know is that I was a very good person. I never wronged anyone,” and described a troubled childhood, saying she had “never known the love of a mother or a father” and had been “raised with a great deal of violence.”
Career and public tributes
Eraslan had built a career in fashion, running a designer atelier in Istanbul and preparing collections for various shows. She became known to millions through the popular competition show Iste Benin Stilim (This is My Style) and maintained a large social media following.
Tributes from followers and colleagues poured in after news of her death. Messages reported on social platforms included: “I can’t believe it… I can’t understand, so sad… Sleep in the lights,” “This should not have been the end of a young person. Rest in peace,” and “Life is so strange. May God rest her soul.”
The investigation into Eraslan’s death remains ongoing. No confirmed cause of death has been released.
