Zhang Zibiao — a popular Chinese education influencer known online as Zhang Xuefeng — died on March 24. He was 41.
Confirmed cause and company announcement
Suzhou Fengxue Weilai Education Technology Co., Mr. Zhang’s company, announced his death in a statement shared to Weibo, saying he died from “a sudden cardiac arrest for which all intensive life‑saving efforts proved unavailing.” The company described his passing as “an immense loss to the educational community” and pledged to carry forward his legacy.
Career and influence
Mr. Zhang was best known for sharing advice about the Gaokao, China’s rigorous college entrance exam. A 2024 profile in the South China Morning Post reported he had more than 30 million followers and ran an extremely popular college counselling service that was often fully booked two years in advance. The profile also reported that Mr. Zhang earned a substantial fortune — reportedly over $100 million — from book royalties, lectures and the three companies he owned.

In its statement, Suzhou Fengxue Weilai Education Technology Co. said: “The passing of Mr. Zhang Xuefeng represents an immense loss to the educational community. We pledge to carry forward his legacy and continue our commitment to helping even more students realize their dreams.”
The company also said: “Hailing from humble beginnings, Mr. Zhang Xuefeng dedicated his entire life to the welfare of students… He devoted himself deeply to the field of education, consistently making it his personal mission to provide financial aid and foster the growth of young scholars, thereby realizing his educational ideals with a heart of utmost sincerity.”
Mr. Zhang’s work advising students on the Gaokao and his widely followed counselling service made him a prominent figure in Chinese education online; his company’s statement and profiles in the press underline the scale of his influence and the plans to preserve his educational work.
