The Emporia, Kansas community is in mourning following the passing of Dr. Bob Grover, an esteemed longtime professor and former dean at Emporia State University. His death marks the end of an era for the academic institution he served for nearly three decades.

A Legacy of Academic Excellence

Dr. Grover’s dedication to higher education was the cornerstone of his life. After receiving degrees from Indiana University and Ball State University, he brought his passion to Emporia State University in 1981. During his 27-year tenure, he was a guiding force, serving as a professor and later as the Dean of the School of Library and Information Management.

His leadership capabilities led him to take on further responsibilities as the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate Studies. His influence also extended beyond Emporia, with academic roles at the University of Southern California and the University of Southern Florida.

A Pillar of the Community

Beyond the university’s walls, Bob Grover was a tireless servant to his community. His commitment to public service was evident through his active and often leadership-level involvement in numerous organizations.

Grover’s civic leadership included roles with the Emporia Lions Club, the American Library Association, the Kansas Library Association, and the League of Women Voters Emporia chapter, solidifying his legacy as a man dedicated to both education and community betterment.

Remembering a Leader

Family, friends, and colleagues will gather to honor his memory. A celebration of life is scheduled for 11 am on Dec. 5 at Emporia’s First United Methodist Church, with a visitation planned for Dec. 4 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
