The Legacy

Trevor Allen turned a passion for music, holiday cheer and technical experimentation into one of Regina’s most beloved seasonal attractions. After experimenting with LED and pixel lights, he launched the Allen Family Lights in 2018; by combining music and choreography across tens of thousands of bulbs, the show grew into a community staple that thousands came to watch each winter.

Beyond the light show, Allen was a dedicated curling coach for Team Allen, where teammates remember him as an encouraging leader who pushed players to grow. He also worked at Regina International Airport, where colleagues called him thoughtful, intelligent and deeply devoted to family and community.

Tributes poured in within hours of the announcement. On the Allen Family Lights page, Allen’s daughter Chloe wrote that her father “loved bringing joy to people,” noting his encouragement of creativity and his ability to make people smile. Team Allen released a statement remembering him not just as a coach but as an inspiration who brought patience, laughter and support to every practice.

The Regina Airport also shared a statement thanking Allen for his leadership and compassion, saying his presence made a lasting impact on coworkers and passengers alike. Local residents and visitors echoed those sentiments online, sharing photos of the light show and memories of the family events Allen helped create.

SaskToday spoke with Allen last week about the annual display, underscoring how quickly the display had become a holiday tradition for many households.
