Rotem Sivan, the jazz guitarist known for his emotive playing and songwriting, has announced the death of his son Eden. In a brief Instagram Stories post the artist confirmed that his 19-month-old son “passed away Friday morning, February 1” after a year-long battle with a rare brain cancer.

Announcement and family response

In his Instagram Stories statement, Sivan wrote: “Our baby boy, Eden, passed away Friday morning. I would like to thank you for the love and support during this extremely hard year. Eden fought a hard fight and we did all we could to save him.” The family has said they intend to focus on celebrating Eden’s life and holding to memories of his smiles and hugs.

Medical battle and public support

Eden and his twin sister, Gigi, were born in June 2024. At six months old Eden was diagnosed with atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor (ATRT), an aggressive central nervous system tumor. The family pursued surgery and intensive treatment; a GoFundMe page titled “Baby Eden’s Cancer Recovery Journey” was established to assist with expenses and to share updates on his condition.

Rotem Sivan has spoken publicly about the family’s ordeal, describing how music became a way to cope during treatment. He had written an album titled “Heart Thieves,” which includes songs named “Eden” and “Gigi,” and he played guitar at his son’s bedside during hospital stays.

Tributes and condolences

The announcement prompted an outpouring of sympathy on social media. Supporters wrote messages including: “I’m so sorry,” “Sending so much love and many prayers,” and “Omg so sad. Sending prayers for the family.” The family’s posts and the fundraiser drew messages of support from around the world as they navigated the loss.

Rotem and his wife, Lore, who welcomed the twins after a complicated pregnancy, have asked for privacy as they grieve. They have said they hope Eden’s story will encourage others to cherish their loved ones.
