Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, a well-known actor in Bengali cinema and television, has died at the age of 42. According to reports, the actor passed away on Sunday, March 29, after an incident during an outdoor shoot near Digha for the television serial Bhole Baba Paar Karega.

Circumstances of the death

Reports say the production team had moved to Talsari, near Digha, for a shoot involving the sea. During the schedule, Rahul Banerjee entered the water while shooting a scene and was later found to be drowning. Technicians at the location pulled him from the water and he was rushed to a hospital in Digha. Multiple accounts have reported drowning as the cause of death.

Actor Bhaskar Banerjee, who appears with Rahul in the same serial, told Anand Bazar Patrika: “He died by drowning. It’s a tragic incident. It happened after the shooting was over (pack-up). However, the exact circumstances of this incident are still unclear.”

Rahul Arunoday Banerjee is survived by his wife, actress Priyanka Sarkar, and their son, Shohoj Banerjee. The couple married in 2010, separated in 2017 and reconciled in 2023 to jointly raise their son, according to reports.

Banerjee first rose to prominence opposite Priyanka Sarkar in the Raj Chakraborty-directed film Chirodini Tumi Je Amar. He went on to appear in films such as Love Circus and Shono Mon Boli Tomay, and in television series including Tumi Asbe Bole. At the time of his death he was working on the TV serial Bhole Baba Paar Karega.
