Sources close to the family have confirmed that Catalan actress Gemma Cuervo passed away this Saturday at the age of 91.

Career beginnings and theatre work

Cuervo began her career at the Spanish University Theatre of Barcelona and made her professional debut with Adolfo Marsillach in Harvey, by Mary Chase. She later joined José Tamayo Rivas’s Lope de Vega Company. In 1969 she and her husband, actor Fernando Guillén, formed their own company, performing plays across Spain and abroad.

Television fame and notable roles

Although Cuervo’s roots were in theatre, she became widely known to the public for her television work. She portrayed Consuelo in Family doctor (Telecinco) and Vicenta in Nobody lives here (Antena 3). On television she formed an iconic trio with actresses Mariví Bilbao (Marisa) and Emma Penella (Concha).

Reflecting on that partnership in 2023 she said, “We had a lovely trio… each one more different and beautiful,” to Socialité. After Penella’s death in 2007 the trio came to an end, and Cuervo left the series three years later.

Legacy

Cuervo’s career spanned theatre and television, and she is remembered for her long-standing contributions to Spanish stage and screen. Sources close to the family provided confirmation of her passing.
