Notable losses in 2026

Chuck Norris died on March 19 at age 86. A martial arts champion and actor, he starred in action films including Breaker! Breaker!, Lone Wolf McQuade, Missing in Action, Delta Force and Code of Silence, and was known for the long-running television series Walker: Texas Ranger.

Neil Sedaka died on Feb. 27 at age 87. The singer-songwriter scored three No. 1 hits on the Billboard charts — “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do,” “Laughter in the Rain” and “Bad Blood” — and had other hits such as “Calendar Girl,” “Lonely Night” and “Love Will Keep Us Together.” He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1983 and was a five-time Grammy nominee.

Eric Dane died at age 53 on Feb. 19. He appeared for several seasons on Grey’s Anatomy and more recently on Euphoria, and earlier in his career had roles on shows including Saved By the Bell, The Wonder Years, Married… with Children, Roseanne and Charmed.

Robert Duvall died on Feb. 15 at age 95. An Oscar winner for Tender Mercies, Duvall received six additional Academy Award nominations for performances in The Godfather, The Great Santini, The Apostle, Apocalypse Now, A Civil Action and The Judge. He also won two Emmys for Broken Trail and received Emmy nominations for Lonesome Dove, The Man Who Captured Eichmann and Stalin.

James Van Der Beek died at age 48 on Feb. 11. He rose to prominence on the teen dramedy Dawson’s Creek and later appeared on CSI: Cyber and Pose. His film credits include Varsity Blues, Texas Rangers, The Rules of Attraction and Labor Day.

Bud Cort died on Feb. 11 at age 77. He was best known for his role in Harold and Maude opposite Ruth Gordon, and appeared in films such as M*A*S*H*, Brewster McCloud, Heat, Dogma, Coyote Ugly and Pollock.

Catherine O’Hara died on Jan. 30 at age 71. An Emmy winner for writing on SCTV and for acting on Schitt’s Creek, she received nominations for projects including Temple Grandin, The Last of Us and The Studio. Her notable film roles included Beetlejuice, Home Alone, Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show.

Demond Wilson died on Jan. 30 at age 79. He was best known for his long-running role opposite Redd Foxx on the television series Sanford and Son and also starred on The New Odd Couple and in numerous guest roles.

Bob Weir, a founding member of The Grateful Dead, died on Jan. 10 at age 78. The Grateful Dead were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and were selected for the Kennedy Center Honors in 2024.
