A beloved young chef who worked at Cibaria in Manly, Sydney, has died after a motorcycle accident in Bali, his family and colleagues confirmed. Davide Vulpis, originally from Terlizzi in southern Italy, had lived in Sydney for about a year and previously worked as a private chef in Ibiza.

Accident and immediate details

According to family posts and statements, Vulpis was travelling with friends when the motorcycle crash occurred earlier this week. His death was announced by his brother, Christian, on Tuesday. The family has described the loss as “unimaginable” and asked for privacy as they make arrangements.

Family response and fundraiser

Christian Vulpis set up a GoFundMe to help cover cremation in Bali, legal and administrative costs, and to transport Davide’s ashes back to Italy so he can “rest with his family.” In the fundraiser post Christian wrote: “I am raising funds for my beloved brother who tragically passed away yesterday in a motorbike accident in Bali.”

Christian urged kindness in a follow-up Instagram Story, thanking donors: “What you have done (for my family) means so much to us and we will be forever grateful.” He also wrote: “be kind and love others, because unfortunately, life is too short” and added, “For Davide and with Davide, forever in our hearts.” The GoFundMe reached its $12,000 goal in a few hours and the page is now paused.

Colleagues and restaurant response

Cibaria Manly announced it would close for the evening so staff could take time to process the news. A spokesperson wrote on Instagram: “Cibaria Manly will be closed this evening due to a personal incident within our team. We appreciate your understanding as our staff take the time they need. Thank you for your support.”

Vulpis built a following as a private chef in Ibiza before moving to Sydney, where he worked at the Cibaria Italian restaurant in Manly. His family and colleagues have paid tribute to his warmth and the happiness he shared with others.
